Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening met the victims injured in the Red Fort car blast at Delhi’s LNJP Hospital soon after returning from Bhutan. He interacted with the patients, enquired about their condition, and wished them a speedy recovery. Doctors and senior officials briefed the Prime Minister on the medical status of the injured and ongoing treatment efforts.
The explosion, which took place on Monday near Gate No. 1 of the Lal Quila metro station, has so far claimed 10 lives. A white Hyundai i20 car exploded in the area, causing extensive damage to nearby vehicles. Forensic experts have confirmed the use of high-intensity explosives, though the exact chemical composition is still being determined. Samples have been sent to forensic labs in Rohini and AIIMS for testing.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect, Dr Umar Un Nabi, allegedly drove the explosive-laden vehicle. His DNA is being matched with samples collected from his mother for verification. Security footage showed the vehicle on the Mumbai Expressway and the KMP Expressway before entering Delhi.
The NIA, now leading the probe, is searching for at least two additional terror modules linked to the attack. Raids are underway across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. Officials suspect the involvement of operatives associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad. Nearly 3,000 kg of explosive substances have already been seized from related arrests, as agencies race to uncover the full network behind the blast.
